On 27 June 2026, Lei Gallery Tokyo opens at Lei In Praise of Shadows Flagship Store in Yoyogi-Uehara.
Until now, Lei has shaped spaces, gestures, and fragrance around an aesthetic of light and shadow, creating places that return the mind and body to stillness, to a point of beginning. With Lei Gallery Tokyo, that language extends further, welcoming works by craftspeople, artists, and designers.
Return to 0. Begin Again.

Return to 0, befor begining again.
For Lei, 0 is a point of return. For the artists it invites, it is also a point of beginning. Lei Gallery Tokyo opens in that interval.
A place for making, material, and encounter
Lei Gallery Tokyo is not simply a place to display works.
It is a place where distinct practices meet, where material, technique, and culture are encountered through light, shadow, and proximity. Here in Yoyogi-Uehara, works, objects, and ways of making are brought into relation.
Opening with Tasuku Murose

The inaugural exhibition is Crossing Mountains and Clouds by lacquer artist Tasuku Murose.
This exhibition is also Murose’s first solo presentation.
Murose was deeply involved in the making of Lei In Praise of Shadows Flagship Store and supervised the wiped-lacquer finish applied to the tops of the display tables in the store. By selecting the base material and building lacquer over its grain, he helped shape the quiet shadows that define the interior.
The exhibition presents new works developed over the past several years of his practice. The works and the lacquered surfaces of the store are seen together, within the same setting.

About the Artist

Tasuku Murose
Born in Tokyo in 1985, Tasuku Murose studied at the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies at Keio University and later earned a doctorate in conservation studies from the Graduate School of Tsurumi University.
Alongside his lacquer practice, he is engaged in research and education in the materials and techniques of cultural heritage, both in Japan and internationally.
In June 2023, he relocated to the Okukuji region of Ibaraki, one of Japan’s leading lacquer-producing areas, where he established Kobo Yama no Ha. Around the same time, he also opened nakanokumo, a cultural meeting place in a residential neighborhood of Tokyo. Moving between these two bases, he continues his work of cultivating, making, and sharing lacquer.
